Today 10AM, a remarkable milestone has been reached. One million people have an active edu-ID account.
It all began in 2004 when innovative Swiss universities joined forces with Switch to create the Switch AAI Identity Federation. Switch AAI was extremely successful in promoting cooperation between universities and providing its members with universal access to online services in their teaching and research activities.
Building on this, the Switch edu-ID was launched in 2014 with the aim of creating a national educational identity. The focus should not be on the organizations, but on the learners themselves. More and more universities have integrated the Switch edu-ID and numerous libraries have also jumped on the bandwagon.
Setting up and operating such an important service as the Switch edu-ID is only possible thanks to the great joint effort of all the people and organizations involved. We would like to thank everyone involved for their support.
